Muscat: The Al Oruba football club announced on Monday that Oman’s former national team player Ahmed Mubarak 'Kanu' has signed a contract with the club to represent the team during the new season 2022-2023.

The experienced midfielder is back to home as he started his football career from Al Oruba at the junior teams moving to the senior team. Kano, who hails originally from Sur, has assisted the Sur-based team in snatching the 2014-2015 top-tier league title and HM Football Cup championship as they defeated neighbours Sur 2-0 in the final clash.

The forthcoming season will be the second successive year for the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the 23rd edition of the Gulf Cup in Kuwait, in the domestic top tier league as he played for Al Suwaiq FC during the previous season.

In his latest tweets from his personal twitter account, Kanu thanked Al Suwaiq club’s chairman, board members, coaching staff, players and the fans for their support during the last season. It was an indication for leaving the north Batinah team and to begin his new journey with the Al Oruba team. Al New comers Al Oruba will open their Omantel League campaign on Thursday against Al Suwaiq at Sur Sports Complex.

Kanu had powered the national team in various accomplishments including his involvement in crowning the maiden Gulf Cup win in 2009 in Muscat and then he was the captain when Oman won the second Gulf Cup in Kuwait in 2018.

The 37-year-old has served different teams during his career as he represented many Gulf teams including Saudi’s Al Wehda, Al Ahli, Al Fateh, UAE’s Al Ain, Qatar’s Al Rayyan, Al Sailiya , Al Mesaimeer, Al Markhiya and Kuwait’s Al Nasr.
