ICTSI establishes first Rijeka–Czech Republic direct cargo rail service

International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) has announced a new Maersk regular train connection between Croatia and Czech Republic.

Launched in May, the Maersk service runs up to two times per week from Rijeka in Croatia, through ICTSI’s Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT), and Paskov in the Czech Republic.

“The Czech market is one of the most important markets in Europe with a significant manufacturing hub and consumer market,” said Emmanuel Papagiannakis, AGCT Chief Executive Officer.

“Currently, there are multiple regular weekly block trains between Rijeka, Serbia, Bosnia and Hungary with extensions for Slovakia. We appreciate that Maersk has launched this initiative adding direct rail services to Czechia. This also confirms the growing significance of AGCT as a gateway for Central Europe and Southeast Europe.”

The service is operated by ČD Cargo Adria, a subsidiary of Czech freight operator ČD Cargo, the largest railway transport provider in Czech Republic and one of the major rail operators on the Trans-European Network corridor.

Last week, ICTSI posted H1 revenue from its global port operations, boasting strong operational and financial results amidst external challenges.

The company registered revenue of $1.06 billion, an increase of 20 per cent from the $882.6 million reported for the first six months of 2021.
