Kenyan Woman Married to Mzungu Man Says Marriage Isn't Perfect: "We Apologise Always"

Njeri Ndungu, a Kenyan woman based in Seattle, Washington, revealed she met her husband on a dating site in The USA in 2014.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke's relationship editor Caren Nyota, Njeri said:

"When we met, we both were hoping to find someone who was ready to settle down, and it worked for us. We dated for one and half years before we got married."

They tied the knot in a small private wedding in 2015 in Florida.

Njeri says no relationship is perfect

The mother of two said just like any other normal relationship, theirs isn't perfect, and they have learnt forgiveness is the key to a successful marriage.

"Learn to forgive often, learn to listen to your partner not to respond but understand what they are saying and where they are coming from. Most of all decide to choose your person everyday," she explained.

She added that:

"We solve our differences the best way we know, how we avoid going at it when the emotions are high if possible set a time and place where we get to express and explain how a situation made us feel. We apologise to each other often too."

Njeri, who works at a prison in the USA, revealed that being in an interracial marriage, they face several challenges but have learnt to ignore critics. She said they're judged by people for marrying from different races.

The gorgeous mum revealed her husband loves pasta, cooks more often for the family and loves mukimo, a traditional Kikuyu food too.

Njeri carries on her Kikuyu traditions

The soft-spoken woman's firstborn child, a three-and-a-half-year-old son, speaks fluent Kikuyu language, and she revealed she would teach her second-born son the language too.

"He is fluent in English and I would say 85% speaks Kikuyu there are still words he cannot pronounce but we are still learning. We made it a habit when the dad is speaking to him he speaks English and I speak Kikuyu because we want them to learn and know both of their heritage," she said.

"My husband doesn’t speak any, but he can hear. My little one is yet to speak, but we are doing the same with him, introducing both languages."

Njeri also disclosed that the USA is the land of milk and honey, as people say, but one has to toil hard.

"You have to work for it, go an extra mile, what I like about it is you don’t have to know people to get a job, as long as you have the qualifications they are looking for the chances of getting hired are high," she said.

Mzungu kid wows netizens with mastery of the Kikuyu language

Earlier, TUKO.co.ke shared a video of Njeri Ndungu's firstborn son Nate, speaking fluent Kikuyu and many hearts were warmed.

In a video posted on Instagram by Njeri, could be heard conversing with her son in the Kikuyu language, telling him to go to school, but he refused.
