Celtic have confirmed the signing of Jota on a long-term deal from Portuguese giants Benfica, ending constant transfer talk around the 23-year-old.

Jota had an impressive campaign in term 2021/22 as manager Ange Postecoglou built an impressive squad which turned in a Premiership title and delivered League Cup glory.

The winger scored 13 goals with 14 assists in 40 games on loan from the Lisbon side and formed an impressive partnership in attack with the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi and Liel Abada.

He is Postecoglou's latest signing this week alone after Argentine left-back Alexandro Bernabei arrived from Lanus on Thursday. It pushes Celtic's spending summer spending well into eight figure territory, with defender Cameron Carter-Vickers already signed from Tottenham Hotspur, while this recruit is said to have cost around £6.5 million.

Bernabei meanwhile cost £3.75 million according to reports, with goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist having arrived on a free from fellow Premiership club Dundee United last month.

It's set to be a big season for Celtic, who are gearing up for a league title defence. There is also that push in the Champions League.

Jota's deal was one fans were keen to see done and his arrival will no doubt put smiles on faces at Parkhead. Pre-season is already underway at Lennoxtown.

Their competitive campaign kicks off at home to Aberdeen on title day later this month. Friendly matches will be played throughout July up until then.
