Indian Government Eager To Explore Ways Of Assisting The Fiji Police Force

The new Indian High Commissioner to Fiji, H.E Palaniswamy Subramanyan Karthigeyan paid a courtesy call on the Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho today.

The courtesy call was conducted via video conference call and discussions revolved around the need to strengthen bilateral relations in matters pertaining to police to police cooperation and training.

High Commissioner Karthigeyan said many Fijians have benefitted from the training and study opportunities offered by the Indian Government, and he was eager to explore ways of assisting the Fiji Police Force with similar opportunities.

“We value greatly our development partnership with Fiji and share a special relationship in the area of security cooperation and I want to use this first meeting to understand if I can be of any assistance to further strengthen our relations”.

His Excellency added that India has a number of leading Police Academies that offer expertise training in specialised fields of policing such as forensics and cybercrime, and are keen on providing opportunities to members of the Fiji Police Force.

Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho welcomed the invitation adding the training of middle managers remained a priority in dealing with emerging global security threats.

Brigadier General Qiliho said strengthening levels of cooperation on security matters will benefit both countries and the Fiji Police Force looked forward to the formalisation of a Memorandum of Understanding that will enhance capacity building and development cooperation in mutual areas of security.
