Nova Scotia and New Brunswick reported new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday, and the provinces are neck-and-neck in the race to fully vaccinate their populations.
New Brunswick’s Department of Health said there is one new case in the province, and the person involved is a youth aged 19 or younger. The case is related to travel, officials said in a news release Tuesday.Health officials in Nova Scotia reported two new COVID-19 infections Monday, also related to travel. Both cases are in the eastern part of the province, public health said in a news release.
With 65.4 per cent of residents aged 12 and over fully vaccinated, Nova Scotia has the highest rate of full vaccination in Atlantic Canada, according to data from COVID-19 Tracker Canada, a website run by volunteers who compile data released by federal and provincial health authorities. New Brunswick is less than a percentage point behind, with 64.7 per cent of residents aged 12 and over fully vaccinated.
The website reports 49.5 per cent of Prince Edward Island residents aged 12 and over are fully vaccinated, while Newfoundland and Labrador’s rate sits at 50.6 per cent.
