Norwegian Automobile Federation: Charging your electric car to 80% is enough

Fully charging your electric car is expensive, time-consuming, and unnecessary, the Norwegian Automobile Federation (NAF) believes.

“Our advice to anyone who is going to use fast charging is that they do not need to charge the electric car battery to more than 80%. The main reason is that the last 20% often takes a very long time to charge,” senior communications consultant Nils Sødal in NAF noted.

“It will be expensive for you, and in addition, a long charging time contributes to increased queues and irritation at the charging stations,” he added.

A recent survey from the transport organization shows that more than 200,000 electric cars will hit the roads during the summer holidays. Thus, there may be a queue at charging stations around the country.

“You save both time and money by stopping charging (at 80%) and adding another short charging stop if you need it, rather than charging to 100% at the charging station,” Sødal explained.
