In 2020, 156,347 mopeds were registered in Norway. In 2015, there were 178,347 registered mopeds. That is a decrease of 12%.

Better public transport, electric scooters, and electric bicycles have contributed to fewer mopeds on the road, the insurance company If believes.

Figures from Statistics Norway (SSB) show that the decline amounted to 12% fewer mopeds in the last five years.

“There are several reasons why fewer people choose mopeds, but there have been several transport alternatives for those who might have wanted to ride a moped earlier,” communications manager Sigmund Clementz in If noted.

Youth in Norway can now practice driving a car from the age of 16, alongside a person who has had a driving license for at least five years. That may be another reason why fewer people drive mopeds.
