Topline

Kim Kardashian has filed for divorce from Kanye West, a Kardashian spokesperson confirmed to Forbes, marking the end of “Kimye,” one of the world’s most notable—and wealthiest—celebrity marriages.

Key Facts

The pair have been married for nearly seven years, but their relationship was thrust into the spotlight last year amid West’s ill-fated run for president and his struggles with mental health.

Kardashian and West married in 2014 and have four children together, North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm.

This was Kardashian’s third marriage, following her divorce from music producer Damon Thomas in 2004 and her 72-day marriage to basketball player Kris Humphries in 2011.

Key Background

In a statement last year addressing West’s bipolar disorder, Kardashian said “anyone who has this or has a loved one in their life who does, knows how incredibly complicated and painful it is to understand.” At the time, West, who believes abortion should be illegal, said Planned Parenthood clinics “have been placed inside cities by white supremacists to do the Devil’s work” in an interview with Forbes. During his first campaign rally for president, he said Harriet Tubman "never actually freed the slaves. She just had the slaves go work for other white people." GOP operatives were found to be helping his campaign behind-the-scenes.

Surprising Fact

The couple have a combined net worth of $2.1 billion, according to Forbes. Their respective business empires—including West’s Yeezy brand—are independently owned, so it should be relatively easy for them to work out the financial aspects of the divorce.
