Cyprus orchestra celebrates surviving 2020

Moment To Savour

Musical moments from last year to savour online

At first glance, looking back at 2020 may not bring the most cherished memories. If, that is, you want to look back to the last year at all. Yet besides the intense experiences, it wasn’t all doom and gloom. Amidst the mayhem and the uncertainty, people and organisations rose to the challenge and found new ways to stay afloat. Cultural institutions, and the art sector in general, had to create a whole new way of existing, with virtual performances being the main solution.

For the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, the previous semester was a busy one, even if most of their concerts were sans audiences. As we step into January 2021, with even stricter governmental measures for the pandemic and no in-person cultural events, the orchestra invites us all on a walk down memory lane with a special streaming.

“Looking back on the last trimester,” comments the orchestra, “we think to ourselves: ‘what a journey!’ An incredible group effort which deserves to be savoured again and again. 2020 may have been a tough year, but it was the year that affirmed more than ever before our determination to keep on showing up on stage!

“We have selected for you the best and most representative moments from our September-December 2020 concerts. A wealth of masterworks, highly acclaimed conductors and soloists from Cyprus and abroad and spirited performances – which the audience had the opportunity to enjoy live back then – are now streamed online.”

On Friday, January 22, at 7pm, the Orchestra’s YouTube channel (@CYSO Channel) will feature a flashback to some of its most cherished recent performances for audiences nationwide to enjoy. This will include Concertos for Orchestras, classical masterpieces, operatic orchestrations, Cypriot compositions and timeless classics, a potpourri of the orchestra bidding farewell to 2020.
