Over a fifth of Petersburg’s population received a flu shot this month.

On Saturday, staff with the Petersburg Medical Center, the public health nurse and volunteers held a drive-through vaccination clinic near the elementary school.

The borough’s emergency operations center assisted with Saturday’s event and incident commander Karl Hagerman updated the borough assembly Tuesday.

“The event was extremely well attended,” Hagerman said. “The organization that went into that was all-encompassing and the workers and volunteers for that event did an amazing job. The count that I received from the public health nurse was that 718 vaccinations were administered to the community both through the drive-through operation and from home health vaccinations at the manor.”

Others who missed the drive-through clinic can still receive this year’s shot by calling the Joy Janssen Clinic at 772-4299. The medical center is getting more of the high-dose shot for those 65 and older but it has not arrived yet.
