The centre-back partnered Godin in the middle of the back four

Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo made his full debut for the Uruguay national team on Tuesday but it came in disappointing circumstances as they lost to Ecuador.

Araujo, 21, was picked by coach Oscar Tabarez to partner Diego Godin in the middle of the back four for the World Cup qualifier.

He has previously played 18 times for his country at youth level, mainly for the U18s and U20s, but had never played for the senior team.

However, it was not the dream debut at Uruguay suffered a 4-2 loss in a qualification game for the 2022 World Cup. They were 4-0 down at one stage before two late Luis Suarez penalties salvaged some pride.

Araujo played for Barça B last season but has now been officially promoted to the first team. He's the third choice centre-back behind Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet and played 90 minutes in the 1-1 draw with Sevilla recently.
