Covid-19 in Bulgaria: Day 147

270 new Covid-19 cases confirmed in Bulgaria over past 24 hours

270 new Covid-19 cases have been confirmed in Bulgaria over the past 24 hours out of 5,582 PCR tests performed, according to data from the single information portal. The biggest number is in Blagoevgrad - 55, in Sofia - 29, and in Varna - 27. 146 have recovered, and 9 have died. 778 coronavirus patients are in hospital, 42 in intensive care. 9 new Covid-19 cases have been registered among medical workers over the past 24 hours - 5 are doctors, 1 - an orderly, and 3 - other kinds of medical staff.

19-year old school leaver infected with Covid-19 dies

One of the 9 coronavirus fatalities over the past 24 hours is a school leaver from Veliko Turnovo. After battling the disease for three weeks he died in a hospital in the city. There is no data of underlying diseases.

Surge in Covid-19 cases among police officers

As a result of the increasing spread of Covid-19 among police, the Sofia Metropolitan Directorate of Interior will reduce the number of police officers guarding the anti-government protests by one third. According to police data, in the past week there have been 5-6 coronavirus cases a day among police. Because of the nature of their work it is difficult for police officers to comply with the anti-epidemic measures.

Vienna airport allows incoming flights, including from Bulgaria

The ban on the landing of airplanes from 18 countries, among them Bulgaria, at Vienna airport has been lifted. The citizens of Austria, the EU countries, as well as Switzerland, as well as the residents of Austria, arriving from Bulgaria will have to present a negative PCR test in English or German, performed not more than 72 hours prior to entry into Austria. People without a test can perform one in Austria within 48 hours, but in that time they will have to self-isolate. These same requirements are valid for the citizens of USA, Albania, North Macedonia, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and other countries. Transit passengers are not required to show a PCR test. 

Again heavy traffic at Kulata-Promachonas border crossing towards Greece

Traffic at Kulata-Promachonas border check point with Greece is again very heavy. The line of cars waiting to cross over into Greece, which formed at the border crossing early this morning, is 5 kilometres long, border police report. Most of the vehicles are Bulgarian and Romanian. The mass testing for Covid-19 continues even though every person entering Greece is obligated to show a negative PCR test.
There is a high likelihood of a tightening of the restrictive measures for incoming Bulgarian and Romanian tourists because of the coronavirus levels in the two countries.
Around 2% of Bulgarians and Romanians have chosen to spend their summer holidays in Greece.

Anti-epidemic measures in Dobrich tightened, PCR test laboratory to open

Stricter anti-epidemic measures are being introduced in Dobrich municipality as of today until the end of August, the BNR’s correspondent reports. In-person attendance at different educational centres, schools, kindergartens, as well as higher educational establishments is being suspended. All indoor as well as outdoor sports events will take place without fans. Seminars, expositions and exhibitions can take place provided seat occupancy does not exceed 50% of their capacity. The same holds true of theatres and concerts. A laboratory is to open in the town for people who want to be tested for Covid-19, which will facilitate the work of the regional health inspectorate.
