HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Honolulu firefighter from the Kalihi Kai fire station has tested positive for COVID-19, officials announced on Sunday.

This now brings the total to seven HFD firefighters who have contracted the virus across Oahu alone: Five from the Hawaii Kai Fire Station; one from the Moanalua Fire Station; and one from the Kalihi Kai station.

Officials say the latest firefighter to test positive has been put on leave and members who came into contact with the person are self-quarantining.

HFD says they are following all guidelines and procedures.

City officials announced the first HFD COVID-19 case associated with the Hawaii Kai station on Wednesday. An undisclosed number of employees there have also been placed on leave and been asked to self-quarantine.

Equipment at the stations, including fire trucks, was sanitized, fire officials said.

The department also says it will continue to redistribute manpower to maintain coverage in the event that more firefighters test positive for the virus.
