NWS reports heat index may be in lower 90s in Brainerd lakes area

Folks in the Brainerd lakes area will be able to feel the heat Wednesday, July 8, but it won’t be as hot as the excessive heat warning issued for the Twin Cities metro area with heat indices expected to peak in the 100-105 range.

The National Weather Service in Duluth reported Brainerd’s heat index is expected to be in the lower 90s Wednesday afternoon. As of 11:23 a.m. — the maximum heat index Wednesday may be 92; 86 Thursday; 82 Friday and Saturday — and by next Wednesday, the heat index is expected to decrease to the upper 70s.

Temperatures will range this afternoon from about 79 degrees at noon to possibly increase to 87 degrees at 3 p.m.

More showers and thunderstorms are expected after 2 p.m. Wednesday in the lakes area, with a high of 90 degrees. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. More showers are expected after midnight, with a 70% chance.
