As tourist hotspots look to relax their lockdown rules, allowing bars and cafes to reopen, whilst beaches slowly fill up again, it's hard not to yearn after a summer holiday.

However, as popular holiday destinations for Brits around the world start to get back to normal, it may not be as easy for UK sun seekers to visit the country of their choice.

Already, Greece and Cyprus have banned Brits because of our poor coronavirus record.

And other countries may well follow suit.

The total number of coronavirus-related deaths in the UK has now exceeded 47,000.

Here is a list of countries that have currently said that Brits cannot visit.

1. Greece

The government has banned Brits from visiting until July 1 at the earliest - after officials changed their mind.

The country which is set to reopen to international tourism on June 15, was set to welcome UK residents.

But following new advice from the European Commission, the travel ban continues.

“The ban [on passenger flights from] Great Britain remains in place for the next two weeks,” the tourism minister, Harry Theoharis confirmed on TV.

Visitors will be face random health checks when they arrive at the airport.

Far-flung countries given the green light include Australia, Japan, Israel, China, New Zealand, and South Korea.

Other countries closer to home include Albania, Austria, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Estonia, Croatia, Cyprus, Latvia, Lebanon, Lithuania, Malta, Montenegro, New Zealand, Norway, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic and Finland.

Mr Theoharis had previously said that the UK's record on coronavirus meant it wouldn't make the cut initially.

He said: “I think that the UK has a big difference in terms of the current medical status of the country with Greece, so I don’t think it’s likely it will be there."

2. Spain

Spain is set to allow Brits back on June 21 - which is earlier than previously expected.

The welcome news follows a day of confusion after the government suddenly announced plans to reopen the borders ten days earlier than announced.

One of the world's most visited destinations by Brits, many hopeful holidaymakers will be thrilled by the loosening of restrictions.

Now from June 21 - when Spain's state of emergency ends - EU states and members of the Schengen area can visit.

As the UK is still in the transition phase of leaving the EU, it has been confirmed that Brits will soon be able to enter the country.

There will also be strict social distancing measures in place in hotels, beaches and restaurants.

Currently, only Spanish citizens, permanent residents or those who can prove they need to enter Spain for essential reasons will be allowed to enter the country.
