Qatar’s aid to benefit thousands of Ukrainians, says Ambassador

Doha: The medical aid sent by Qatar to Ukraine was timely and will benefit thousands of Ukrainians, said Andrii Kuzmenko, Ambassador of Ukraine. Qatar deserves praise for its significant contribution to the global efforts to overcome the pandemic, reaffirming its high prestige in the international arena.

In implementation of the directives of the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, a cargo plane loaded with urgent medical aid provided by Qatar through Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD) arrived yesterday in Ukraine, in support of the efforts of Ukraine to address the COVID-19 outbreak.

The aid shipment was received by Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba and Qatar’s Ambassador to Ukraine Hadi bin Nasser Al Hajri.

“The humanitarian aid provided by the State of Qatar is highly valued in Ukraine as it is very timely and contains such a necessary protective medical goods. It will help to protect thousands of Ukrainians,” said Kuzmenko.

“I would like to stress that the State of Qatar deserves praise for its efforts to combat COVID-19 at the global scale. If I am not mistaken, Qatar has already delivered humanitarian medical assistance to around 30 different countries, extending its helping hand at this critical moment,” he added.

The cargo, which was provided to Ukraine by Qatar Fund for Development, contained around nine tonnes of coveralls, medical gowns, masks, gloves, goggles and face shields.

“I would like to underline that this humanitarian aid is the result of agreements reached recently between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani,” said Kuzmenko.

 “I would like to express my sincere gratitude first of all to Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani,” he added.

 Kuzmenko also emphasised that bilateral relations between Qatar and Ukraine has reached new heights and it will further expand in future.

“I would like to emphasize that Ukraine is ready to continue effective cooperation with Qatar in combating COVID-19 and sharing the experience in this field. I am really happy, that especially during the recent years the Ukrainian Qatari relations has reached new heights, thanks to the intensive political dialogue and acceleration of trade and economic cooperation between our states,” he said.

“There are many important issues of on our current bilateral agenda. I am confident that after overcoming the pandemic, Ukraine and Qatar will continue proactive interaction in their implementation,” he added.
