DHAKA, Bangladesh

Bangladesh foreign minister reiterated his strong stance Saturday for not allowing to enter the country a British woman who joined the Daesh/ISIS terror group in 2015 as a teen.

“Bangladesh will not accept British citizen and ISIS member Shamima Begum. She has no relation with Bangladesh,” said Dr. AK Abdul Momen, as reported by state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).

Not only Begum, but anyone involved in militancy will not be allowed to enter the country, said Momen.

He rejected any link between Bangladesh and Begum, saying Bangladesh does not have connection to her nor any member of her family, and no one in her family is a Bangladeshi citizen.

Momen said Begum nor her parents applied for Bangladeshi citizenship.

Begum appeal for British citizenship was recently revoked by the British Home Office.

The U.K. government argued she is of Bangladeshi origin and is eligible for Bangladeshi citizenship.

Background

The "Daesh bride" left the U.K. at the age of 15 to marry a member of the Daesh/ISIS terror group. She lost the first stage of her court appeal against the British Home Office's decision to strip her of her citizenship Feb. 8.

She lived in Daesh-controlled areas for three years, marrying a Dutch foreign fighter. She is now 20 and resides at the al-Roj camp in Syria close to the Iraqi border.

The British government argued because Begum is of Bangladeshi origin, she is eligible for Bangladeshi citizenship by descent under that country's law, and thus cannot be considered stateless.
