Nationally, officials with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said there have been 6,600 flu-related deaths.
At least 39 kids have already died. No children have died in New Hampshire.
Flu activity is considered widespread in New Hampshire and 47 other states, health officials said.
Officials said the illness is especially dangerous for the young, the old and those with underlying health concerns.
The flu is most contagious in the first 24 to 48 hours of infection, often before people realize they have it. Experts said that's why it's so important to wash hands and cover coughs.
Those with the flu should stay home from school or work until they're fever-free for at least 24 hours. It's also not too late to get the vaccine, either as a shot or nasal spray.
