The Wildcats suffer their third straight loss in a sour three set match before returning back home. Chico State may seem a long way from home after being dominated a talented Chaminade University squad. The Silverswords stretched their undefeated streak to 4-0 after running through the Wildcats 25-17, 25-17, 25-21.

Kim Wright and Grace Shepherd combined for eight kills a piece on Saturday. Wright also finished with a pair of blocks to her totals. Brooke Ono provided her team with 21 assists and a pair of blocks

The Wildcats opened the evening with an optimistic opening by taking an early 5-3 lead. Chaminade would find the gaps in the Wildcat defense to go on a huge 7-point run in the middle of the set taking the lead 10-7. Chico State lost control and dropped the first set.

The Silverswords early jump in the second set provided a confident cushion to wield the game in their control. The Silverswords went on two four-point runs and all hope for a Wildcat comeback diminished as the set ended 25-17.

The third set was the last chance for Chico State to stay in the game. They had a promising start when they took a slim 13-12 lead to amplify the competition. Chaminade’s force was felt once again as they went on another mid-set run.

The Wildcats desperately clawed back from a 21-16 deficit to bring the game within a point. The skilled Silverswords quickly shut Chico down on a four-point run ending the set 25-21.

The Wildcats hope the tough competition will sharpen them up for their next match Thursday Sept. 12 at 10 a.m. Chico State will continue action next time in La Jolla to compete in the Division II West Region Volleyball Showcase.
