HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - Post-Tropical Storm Akoni has weakened into a remnant low that should pass far to the south of Hawaii, according to forecasters.

The Central Pacific Hurricane Center said what was left of Akoni was located about 690 miles south-southeast of Hilo early Friday morning. It was moving west at 16 miles per hour with winds of 35 miles per hour.

Little change in strength was expected until the system encounters increased wind shear Tuesday.

Akoni’s remnants will have little to no effect as far as showers, but breezy trade winds may increase Sunday as the remnant circulation passes several hundred miles to the south.
