This week at Cobo Center, Detroit hosted the first ever Michigan Commercial Cannabis Convention and Expo.

Since Snoop Dogg owns a marijuana company called Leafs by Snoop, one might assume that is why he came to town.

You would assume wrong.

He came to town to promote his gospel music and play Redemption of a Dogg, coming to the Detroit Music Hall later this month.

“I don’t care what nobody says or what it does to my image or reputation because it is not as important as this message is,” said Snoop Dogg.

Snoop Dogg says he has evolved, taking his music from gangster to gospel.

“Anybody can be redeemed.  We all make mistakes and do things wrong, but can you fix it and make it right?” he said.

He still weighed in on Proposal One, which would legalize recreational marijuana in Michigan.

He said in communities where marijuana has been legalized tax dollars benefit the public and crime has dipped.

It also leads to an increase in business.  He says if Michigan approves recreational marijuana he may bring business to Detroit with his company.

“Don’t be duped by the dope,” countered Monica Anthony, a consultant with Healthy & Productive Michigan.

Anthony says she is not against marijuana, but Snoop Dogg is not accurate. She says crime rates have gone up in communities where it has been legalized.

She says Proposal 1 is not well written, the tax dollars will be hard to collect, and it legalizes a new age extra potent pot in any form.

“It’s not your dad’s weed,” said Anthony.
