One person was transported to the hospital in the early hours of Dec. 15, after authorities say their vehicle crashed head-on into an Anchorage Fire Department engine.

According to Alex Boyd, Assistant Chief with AFD, the vehicle crossed the center line on Eagle River Road, and collided with the fire engine. Emergency responders were notified of the crash shortly before 7:30 a.m.

No one in the AFD truck was injured, Boyd said, however the driver of the other vehicle was transported to the hospital. Officials could not say the extent of his injuries.

Significant damage was sustained by both vehicles, Boyd said.

The identity of the driver and what caused them to veer into oncoming traffic has not been disclosed at this time.
