Green's Moldovan wins individual boys Division I golf crown; Solon's Wang second in girls tourney

COLUMBUS, Ohio — On the strength of a four-under par performance on Saturday, Green sophomore Maxwell Moldovan claimed medalist honors at the Division I State Golf Tournament, finishing with an even par on the Ohio State University Scarlet Course.

Green finished third in the team standings with a 312-316—628 two-day total, behind Dublin Jerome (607) and runner-up Olentangy Liberty (616). Boardman finished fifth (630), University School placed seventh (660) and Brunswick took 10th (670).

Moldovan was tied for eighth after the first day, carding a 76 on the par-72 course, but he fired off a 68 on the second day, making him the only golfer in the field to card a 70 or less. Teammate Cade Breitenstine also earned All-Ohio honors, shooting 73-80—153 to tie for 11th place.

Boardman’s Cole Christman finished tied for 15th with a 76-78—154 total.

DIVISION I GIRLS

Solon’s Jennifer Wang shot an even-par 140 over two days of the Division I State Golf Tournament at the Ohio State University Gray Course, securing a second-place finish behind medalist Katie Hallinan (137) of Cincinnati Indian Hill.

Solon finished in 10th place overall in the tournament, with a 683 two-day score. Wang shot a par-70 both days on the course. Canton Glen Oak’s Jessica Hahn, competing individually, finished tied for sixth with a 71-74—145.

North Canton Hoover took sixth place (667) with Madison Ardelean leading the way with a 76-76—152 to tie for 15th. Olentangy Orange led all teams with a 602 total, while Hathaway Brown (679) finished ninth and Magnificat finished (693) 11th.
