Thousands Rally Against Sri Lankan President Sirisena in London – Shouting War Criminal

Yesterday - Sri Lankan President used backdoor to leave the airport due to protests.

Thousands of British citizens from different nationalities rally in London today against the visiting Sri Lankan President Maithripala Srisena. Shouting slogans like Srisena is war criminal and Tamils need justice for war crimes and genocide. This rally was organized by British Tamil Forum (BTF). Several British Parliamentarians and other political leaders also joined and addressed this huge rally.

The protesters were highlighting President Sirisena’s role in the killing of large number of Tamil civilians during the last weeks of the war that ended in May 2009. President Sirisena was the acting defense minister in the last two weeks of the war when large number of Tamils were killed and women sexually assaulted and raped.

He also served as acting defence minister five times during the war.

Yesterday when Sri Lankan President arrived at Heathrow Airport, he had to use the back door to leave the airport due to demonstrations.

Two more rallies are also going to take place against Sri Lankan Presidet in London.

According to UN Internal Review Report on Sri Lanka over 70,000 Tamils were killed in six months in 2009 and the UN Human Rights Council initiated an international investigation for war crimes and crimes against humanity for those killings.

Recently, the Northern Provincial Council in Sri Lanka, headed by a former justice of Sri Lanka’s Supreme Court, passed a unanimous Resolution urging International Criminal Court to investigate Genocide committed against Tamils by the Sri Lankan State.
