AFTER much hype, the highly anticipated Guyana Football Federation (GFF) ExxonMobil International Futsal tournament kicks off tonight at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, from 18:00hrs, with eight teams vying to etch their names in history as the first to win the first-of-a-kind tournament.

The tournament, a first in Guyana, will see Trinidad and Tobago’s Morvant Caledonia United headline the list of teams from overseas and which also features ZV All-Stars from Suriname, and a Brazilian side from the state of Sao Paulo.

The Guyana Select side will also come up against a team from Linden, East Bank Demerara, East Coast Demerara and West Demerara football associations.

After the opening ceremony at 19:00hrs, Morvant Caledonia United will face the Linden unit from 20:00hrs, which will then make way for Brazil versus West Demerara, Georgetown against Suriname and the Guyana versus East Coast clash will bring the curtain down on night one of the four-night fiesta.

Golden Jaguars trio Colin Nelson, Daniel Wilson and Andrew Murray will headline coach Bill Wilson’s 16-man squad for the ExxonMobil-sponsored Guyana Football Federation (GFF) International Futsal tournament, set for Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, December 27-30.

The winning side will pocket $1.2M, while second- through fourth-place will go home with $600 000, $300 000 and $100 000 respectively.
