Jeenbekov opens photo exhibition dedicated to 90th anniversary of Ch. Aitmatov in D. Hammarskjöld Library of UN

Bishkek, Sept. 25, 2018. /Kabar/. President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbaн Jeenbekov opened on Monday a photo exhibition dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Kyrgyz writer Chyngyz Aitmatov in D. Hammarskjöld Library of UN in New York, USA, the press service of the Kyrgyz President's Office reported.

The organizers of the photo exhibition were Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Turkey.

UN Under Secretary General for Global Communications Alison Smale stressed, in her speech, that Chyngyz Aytmatov always wrote about his homeland, presenting Kyrgyzstan to the rest of the world. He reflected on the fundamental issues of the mankind, respect for national cultures and the impact of environmental degradation on people's lives. She also added that these issues are today the main goals of sustainable development, which the whole world adopted the UN 3 years ago.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Vershinin noted that this event is of particular importance, since it closely links the past and the present.

"Chyngyz Aitmatov's works remain on the table of those people who want to think, understand what is happening in life. It is difficult for me to overestimate the significance of the writer's work for a huge number of Soviet people. These people have not gone anywhere, they stayed with Chyngyz Aitmatov, that foundation of our spiritual life, which unites us," Sergey Vershinin stressed.

Adviser to the President of Turkey İbrahim Kalın, in his speech, called Chyngyz Aitmatov one of the most important figures in the world literature.

"He described life in the steppe like no other. That is why his works have been translated into 170 languages ​​of the world. Apart from literature, Aitmatov reached great heights in diplomacy over his 20-year career. We witnessed the genius of thinking during his participation in international events in the territory of Turkey,” the adviser to the President of Turkey said.

He expressed gratitude to the organizers of the event and the President of Kyrgyzstan for their aspiration to support and promote such events, while noting that under the instruction of President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Chyngyz Aitmatov's books were sent to the exhibition from libraries in Turkey. "This underscores the importance of this event for the Turkish side," he said.

Jeenbekov expressed sincere gratitude to those present for their participation in the opening of the photo exhibition dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the outstanding classical writer, statesman, diplomat, great son of the Kyrgyz people who glorified Kyrgyzstan throughout the world, as well as Russian and Turkish friends who provided invaluable assistance in organization of this photo exhibition.

"We, Kyrgyz people, are sincerely glad that this event is taking place in the library of the United Nations. Chyngyz Aitmatov - an outstanding writer, a philosopher of modern times – is a universal phenomenon. He lives in all languages ​​and dialects," the country leader stressed, recalling that according to the UNESCO, Chyngyz Torekulovich is named the most widely-read writer in the world after Shakespeare and Tolstoy. His books have been translated into 176 languages ​​and published in a total circulation of 100 million copies. And these figures are increasing every day.

"Aitmatov praised in his works the freedom of thought and spirit, the irreconcilable struggle between good and evil. His works, which affirm the ideals of good, justice and humanism, have found their way to the hearts of readers of different countries and generations. As an outstanding contemporary humanist, he exalted the champions of justice, people who possess the highest qualities of human conscience,"Jeenbekov said.

The country leader presented gifts to the UN Library in the form of a collection of works (200 books), a bronze statue of the writer and statues of wolves Tashchynar and Akbar from the work of the writer – The Scaffold.

Director of the library Thanos Giannakopoulos expressed gratitude for the opportunity to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the writer, humanist and diplomat Chyngyz Aitmatov, as well as to share his memories of his work. Thanos Giannakopoulos is the author of translations of a number of works by Chyngyz Aitmatov into the Greek language.

The opening of the exhibition was attended by UN Under Secretary General for Global Communications Alison Smale, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Vershinin, Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations Vladimir Voronkov, Adviser to the President of Turkey İbrahim Kalın, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Kairat Abdrakhmanov, Tajikistan Sirojiddin Aslov, Assistant Secretary General of the UN Miroslav Jenča, the Secretary of State and Deputy Secretary of State of Hungary Peter Sztaray, as well as representatives of the Kyrgyz diaspora in New York and students acquiring education in the United States.

Jeenbekov talked with Kyrgyz citizens before the opening of the exhibition, joint photography took place.
