Newport International Boat Show will feature industry breakfast

The annual Industry Partnership Breakfast during the Newport International Boat Show will start at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15.

Sponsored by Gowrie Group, the breakfast will include an informative panel with up and coming industry leaders.

Clean Ocean Access Executive Director Dave McLaughlin will monitor the panel, which will focus on environmental stewardship: how important it is to a younger generation of boaters, how it can impact marine businesses, and details on programs these young leaders have spearheaded.

Panelists will include Evan Ridley of the Rhode Island Marine Trades Association, a key player in launching the RI Fiberglass Vessel Recycling Pilot Project; Jay Frechette of Starkweather & Shepley Insurance Brokerage, speaking on how companies manage environmental sustainability risks, such as sea-level rise; and Michelle Carnevale of 11th Hour Racing, which works with the sailing and maritime communities to advance practices that protect the health of the ocean.

Susan Maffei “Suma” Plowden will also receive the 2018 Anchor Award at the breakfast, for her role as stopover director for the Volvo Ocean Race Newport–a local happening that has brought global attention and acclaim to Rhode Island.

RIMTA Future will also be hosting a networking event during the boat show, on the evening of Sept. 15.

If you are an early to mid-career industry professional looking to catch up with your peers during the boat show, put the event on your calendar and watch the RIMTA Facebook page for more details.
