South Alabama on Friday got a 2019 verbal commitment from Mississippi junior college linebacker Nick Anderson.
Anderson announced his pledge to the Jaguars via Twitter on Friday. He later spoke with South Alabama coach Steve Campbell and confirmed his commitment.
Anderson, entering his freshman year at Jones County Junior College, will have three seasons of eligibility at South Alabama beginning in 2019. The Vicksburg, Miss., native passed on a number of four-year small-college offers to play a year in junior college.
Anderson (6-foot, 225) was the Vicksburg Post Defensive Player of the Year in both 2016 and 2017 for Vicksburg High. He totaled 250 tackles and 32 tackles for loss in his final two high school seasons.
Anderson gives South Alabama nine verbal commitments for the 2019 class, a list that also includes Pensacola (Fla.) Pine Forest OL John Gill, West Memphis (Ark.) tight end Marcus Whitaker, Stockbridge (Ga.) defensive tackle Desmond Barkley, Chickasaw running back AJ Phillips, Georgia wide receiver Keelan Marion and a trio of junior-college offensive linemen: Kent Foster, Conner Estes and Jacob Shoemaker.
