The community-driven White Cloud Festival has grown into a signature summer event for Jamestown, with several organizations pulling together simultaneous events for one purpose, said Searle Swedlund, executive director of Jamestown Tourism.

“No one person or group runs everything,” Swedlund said. “It’s a collaboration on the theme of White Cloud Days.”

The festival started to honor the birthday of White Cloud, the albino bison who lived her 19 years on the grounds at the National Buffalo Museum. She died in 2016 at the Shirek Buffalo Farm in Michigan, N.D.

White Cloud is now preserved as an exhibit at the National Buffalo Museum in Jamestown.

“While White Cloud Festival began as a celebration of White Cloud’s birthday,” said Ilana Xinos, executive director of the National Buffalo Museum. “It continues as an event that brings community members, family and friends together.”

Jamestown Fire Department’s ninth annual pancake breakfast will help fund the purchase of JFD equipment. Tickets are $7 or $20 for families at the door.

The kids can spray a fire hose at a model house, said JFD Chief Jim Reuther. Adults can look over equipment that was acquired with pancake breakfast funds, and hopefully some people will be inspired to join the department, he said.

“This is just a great event,” Reuther said. “It’s a great way to welcome the public into the fire station and visit with them while they enjoy a great meal.”

Two Rivers Activity Center’s second annual TRAC Scholarship 5K run-walk will support its membership assistance program scholarships, said Amy Walters, TRAC manager. The 5K is $25 per person, $50 per family and $10 for kids 12 and under, she said.

“The 5K allows TRAC the opportunity to provide a healthy community activity as part of the White Cloud Days festivities,” Walters said.

Preregister by calling 952-8722 or visit tracjamestown.com. People who complete the 5K in time for the White Cloud parade can join the TRAC float at McElroy Park.

“We are calling it our finishers float,” Walters said.

“The Learning Center at TRAC is decorating the float,” said Doug Hogan, director of Jamestown Parks and Recreation Department.

The Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce is organizing the parade. There are more than 100 floats expected to be registered by Saturday, according to Chris Hamilton, marketing and communications director for the chamber.

The Jamestown Arts Center will have its sixth annual Mini Art Hunt event, said Angela Martini, public relations director for the Arts Center. Ten pieces of artwork will be hidden in the Jamestown park system that includes designated parks, centennial and memorial parks, she said.

“We will have four photos taken of each art piece and posted on our blog and Facebook pages,” Martini said.

The Jamestown Classic Car Club will display vintage cars, trucks and motorcycles in the parade and car show at McElroy Park. There will also be food, merchandise venders and organizational booths.
