He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on November 26, 1975.
Interested in music since his youth, he worked in a record store in his native New Orleans while starting off his career, befriending rappers like Lil Wayne and Birdman in 1993 before they became hip-hop stars. After working as a DJ, he later relocated to Miami, Florida to work as the host of the radio station WEDR and also found work producing hip-hop albums from 2004 to 2006.
In 2006, DJ Khaled released his debut record Listennn… the Album and later followed up with additional efforts like We the Best in 2007, We Global in 2008, Kiss the Ring in 2012 and Major Key in 2016. His most recent record Grateful was released on June 23, 2017 and debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart, eventually being certified platinum.
