He was born in London on March 24, 1947.
Lord Sugar grew up in a council flat and left school at age 16 to work briefly as a statistician at the Ministry of Education before selling electronic consumer goods on his own to make a living.
He later founded the consumer electronics company Amstrad in 1968, becoming independently wealthy in doing so. Lord Sugar eventually branched out from business, serving as the chairman of Tottenham Hotspur from 1991 to 2001 and becoming a prolific media personality after starring in the UK version of The Apprentice since 2005.
