The Oregon State Beavers football program hosted more than 400 prospects in the month of June, hoping to build momentum with a big commitment weekend.

On June 10, that approach paid off handsomely for coach Jonathan Smith and his staff, as they secured four commitments, highlighted by four-star defensive end Omar Speights.

But the Beavers weren't done.

A day after adding three-star defensive tackle Evan Bennett and solidifying the commitment of Clackamas defensive lineman Kelsen Hennessy247Sports three-star cornerback Wynston Russell waited until Sunday afternoon to announce his pledge to Oregon State over offers from Iowa State, Northern Illinois, Syracuse, Toledo, Wisconsin and others:

For the 5-foot-11, 180-pound defensive back, out of Homewood-Flossmoor High School (Flossmoor, Illinois), the difference-maker proved to be his official visit to Corvallis last week, in which multiple aspects stood out.

"Everything honestly," Russell said. "As soon as I got there and started talking to different people I knew it was a good fit. The people are good. The players were cool. I committed because it was the right place for me. I can go off to school, focus on ball and school. I was comfortable with everything and I know big things are about to start happening there. The staff was great coach (Greg) Burns is a great coach. The program is only going to get better and better and I want to be a part of that."

Russell is the ninth commitment in the class of 2019 for Oregon State and the seventh on the defensive side of the ball, joining Speights, Clackamas defensive lineman Kelsen Hennessy, Marshfield defensive end Cory Stover, Mater Dei defensive tackle Evan Bennett and outside linebackers Ryan Franke and Michael Erhart.
