Community Roundup: Table Mountain Rowing Club competes at Gold Rush Masters Regatta

The Table Mountain Rowing Club raced five boats in the 1,000-meter sprints division in the Gold Rush Masters Regatta, held at Lake Natoma in Rancho Cordova on Saturday.

The novice mixed 8-plus took first place with rowers Emma Mavis, Skyler Osborn, Abby Skillicorn, Rosendo Garibay, Carrie Waheed, Kristina Judy, Kaitlyn Ehorn and Christine Bays with coxswain Rosa Nelson. The novice women 4-plus took second place with Teri Long, Jean Murphy-Atkins, Becky Damazo and Sidne Gray with coxswain Kaitlyn Ehorn. The novice women 8-plusfinished fourth with rowers Carrie Waheed, Jean Murphy-Atkins, Teri Long, Shelly Hashimoto, Leslie Hess, Santi Sanchez, Sidney Gray and Becky Damazo, coxed by Kaitlyn Ehorn.

A total of 383 boats were entered from 28 clubs.

Chico Racquet Club Beach Volleyball IBVL team >> The Chico Racquet Club Beach Volleyball Team won the first ever Interscholastic Beach Volleyball League Northern California Championship Saturday in Folsom.

The Pleasant Valley and Chico High School players beat Oakridge 4-1, St. Mary’s 3-2 and Ponderosa 4-1.

Team No. 1 Makenna Joyce and Madi Gray went 2-1, team No. 2 Hannah Fox and Bailey Baker went 3-0, team No. 3 Jade and Jordan Bennett went 3-0, team No. 4 Colette Florentin and Bailey Baker went 1-2 while team No. 5 Jenna Matthews and Claire Jacobsen went 2-1 in the eight-team bracketed championship.

A total of 175 pairs from 27 different schools competed in the Folsom IBVL. Since February, the top eight high school teams (five pairs) qualified for the championship. Chico came in seeded No. 3 and beat the sixth, second and first seeds to win.
