Usage of negative blood types is high because of an increased number of trauma patients in local hospitals right now, according to the Oklahoma Blood Institute. The Oklahoma Blood Institute is in immediate need of blood donations, especially from people with O-negative and A-negative blood types.

One day only, blood donors will be entered for a chance to win their choice of dream getaway: a Disney vacation or a Caribbean cruise. Oklahoma Blood Institute is holding blood drives statewide on Saturday, May 5, to help area patients. Donors ages 16 years old and up are welcome at one of the following drive locations:

Drives are also being held at Oklahoma Blood Institute’s nine donor centers in Ada, Ardmore, Enid, Lawton, central Oklahoma City, north Oklahoma City, Norman, Edmond, and Tulsa.  Hours and locations are available on obi.org.

Donors will be entered for a chance to win one of two premier vacation packages of their choosing from Fundraisingtrips.org!  The choices are either a seven-night Caribbean cruise for two adults OR a 3-day, 2-night Disney Resort hotel package for two adults and one child including three two-day passes to Disney World Parks.

Each blood donor will also receive an inspirational t-shirt in a trendy color of their choice: olive, maroon, or teal.  Whataburger is providing donors with a coupon for a free honey butter chicken biscuit.

It typically takes about an hour to give blood.  Oklahoma Blood Institute provides blood for more than 160 hospitals and medical facilities statewide.

Appointments for the blood drive aren’t required, but can be made by calling 877-340-8777 or visiting obi.org.
