Update 11:39 a.m.:

The two Eureka women killed in the April 13 fatal collision on U.S. Highway 101 near Salmon Creek Road were former College of the Redwoods students.

College of the Redwoods spokesman Jesse Wiedel confirmed that Emely Selina Carreno-Arenas, 20, and Michelle Segundo, 19, were enrolled in the fall 2017 semester, but not the current semester.

The Times-Standard has contacted Humboldt State University to determine whether Carreno-Arenas and Segundo were enrolled this semester.

At Sunday’s memorial for 19-year-old David Josiah Lawson— the HSU student who was fatally stabbed a year ago at a house party in Arcata — Lawson’s mother Charmaine Lawson recognized Carreno-Arenas’ and Segundo’s deaths and said they had been friends of her son.
