One of the Florida “hot cops” whose selfie went viral last year on Facebook has been tapped for the next season of “Survivor” and is taking a break from the police force to jet off to Fiji for filming, TMZ reports.
Daniel Rengering of the Gainesville Police Department will be paid at least $10,000 for his role on the reality show, and could get up to $1 million if he wins, according to the report published early this morning by the celebrity news site.
The Associated Press reported that their photo elicited more than 100,000 comments “praising the officers’ good looks. One woman wrote that she would like to turn herself in for the thoughts running through her head. Another posted: ‘how long does it take to get from NW Arkansas to Gainesville Florida? Asking for a friend.’”
The police department later deleted the popular image, however.
Rengering’s former co-worker Michael Hamill, who was also in the selfie posted during Hurricane Irma, left the department amid allegations that he posted anti-Semitic comments on his personal Facebook profile.
The Gainesville Sun reported that one screen shot from Hamill’s profile from April 2013 reads: “Who knew that reading jewish jokes before I go to bed would not only make me feel better about myself but also help me to sleep better as well. Here is one for everybody, ‘What’s the difference between boy scouts and jews?’ Anybody know? Well it is because ‘Boy scouts come back from their camps.’”
