Officer Kevin Denharder, of the California Highway Patrol, said the vehicle was reported to the agency at 10:26 a.m. The owner of a ranch along the highway east of Briggs Road found the vehicle on the property, Denharder said.

The driver of the vehicle, a Los Angeles man, was found in the 1999 Chevrolet Metro and pronounced dead at the scene, Denharder said.

The vehicle went off the roadway, down an embankment and crashed into a eucalyptus tree, Denharder said. However, there appear to be no witnesses to the crash and authorities are unsure when it happened, Denharder said.

Due to those circumstances, it is unclear what may have caused the vehicle to go off the road, he said. It was also unknown if there were other people in the car at the time of the crash, Denharder said.

However, it is known he was not wearing a seat belt, Denharder said.

The man’s name is being withheld pending notification of his family.

Anyone with information about the crash can contact Ventura’s CHP office at 662-2640.
