DOH host breastfeeding classes

The Florida Department of Health in Volusia County is offering free breastfeeding classes for new and expectant mothers. The classes will be held from 6-8 p.m. on the following dates: Tuesday, March 6, at 775 Harley Strickland Blvd., Orange City; Wednesday, March 14, at 717 W. Canal St., New Smyrna Beach; and Thursday, March 15, at 1845 Holsonback Drive, Daytona Beach. Reservations are suggested but not required. Red Cross swimming classes set

The American Red Cross is offering a basic swim instructor course in Palm Coast from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 16-18. The course is designed to train instructor candidates to teach the fundamental learn-to-swim courses and water safety presentations. Instructor candidates will learn to teach Parent and Child Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics, Learn-to-Swim Levels 1-3 and private lessons. The course is open to ages 16 and older, and the fee is $285. Registration is required.

A Lifeguard Certification Class will be held in Palm Coast from 4-8 p.m., March 23-25, and Saturday and Sunday classes from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. The focus of the class will be to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies. Participants must be age 15 or older. The $300 fee includes books, CPR mask and certification fee, and class size is limited.

Yoga class for survivors offered

A free yoga class for cancer survivors and caregivers is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, at Florida Hospital Flagler, 60 Memorial Medical Parkway, Classroom C, Palm Coast. The class will focus on gentle, restorative yoga that integrates movements, stretches and breath awareness for cancer patients, survivors and others with range of motion and pain limitations. The class is held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month. For information or to register, call 386-586-2065.

'Taking Care of Me' workshop planned

VITAS Healthcare will present a workshop, "Taking Care of Me: Managing stress while providing quality care," by Vonshelle Beneby, bereavement services manager, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, in the activity room at Lexington Place Assisted Living Community, 301 S. Myrtle Ave., New Smyrna Beach. Continued education credit is available to licensed nurses, social workers and nursing home administrators. The event is free and open to the public.
