wenty-four trash disposal sites in 10 areas of the city have reduced Bogor’s waste taken to the Galuga dump site by 5.15 tons per day.
Bogor produces about 700 tons of waste per day.
Managed by the local community with supervision from subdistrict heads, the disposal sites use the reuse, reduce and recycle (3R) approach.
According to head of the Bogor Environment Agency’s waste management technology development department, Lusi Nurbaiti Badri, the agency is monitoring and evaluating the operation of the disposal sites by conducting unannounced inspections.
She said her agency held meetings with the community and subdistrict heads once a month to discuss problems in the field and find solutions.
“Currently, the problem is household waste that has not been sorted before it is dumped at the disposal site. The groups spend 90 percent of their time sorting and processing the waste,” Lusi said, as quoted by kotabogor.go.id.
Hence, the agency keeps informing residents to sort their own waste. It also aims to turn leaves into briquettes.
She added that the agency had decided to increase the capacity of the disposal sites, since there was no budget to establish new sites this year. (wnd)
