One teen killed, two others injured in U.P. crash

SANDS TOWNSHIP, MI - A teenager was killed and at least two other people were injured Tuesday morning when two cars collided on M-553 in the Upper Peninsula.

Benjamin Johnson, 18, of Norway, south of Iron Mountain, died at the scene, Michigan State Police said. He was a front-seat passenger in a car driven by Marcus Trujillo, 18, of Fennville.

Trujillo's vehicle was southbound on M-553 near Olsen Road just before 8 a.m. today when he lost control and drove into the path of a northbound vehicle, authorities said.

The northbound van was driven by Peter Anderson, 41, of Gwinn.

Both Anderson and Trujillo were taken to U.P. Health Systems in Marquette.
