P

resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is set to officially kick off work on the development of a waste-to-energy power plant (PLTSa) in the Rawa Kucing landfill area of Tangerang, Banten, in April.

The government is currently looking for an investor for the project, wartakota.tribunnews.com reported on Friday. The Rawa Kucing landfill was chosen because of its proximity to Jakarta in the hope that it can help process waste from the capital.

A top official at the landfill, Masan, said the 34-hectare area could be operated for another 10 years. “This facility has so much empty space,” he said, adding that around 17 tons of waste were dumped at the facility each day.

Work on several infrastructure facilities, such as roads, is currently underway at the site.

The Public Works and Public Housing Ministry is building two roads to connect the facility with the surrounding areas.

Masan said the construction work was expected to conclude soon.

“We have three entrance gates at this facility, but only one gate that is already equipped with a good road.” (vny)
