2 killed in separate weekend Jefferson County crashes

Two people were killed over the weekend in separate Jefferson County traffic crashes.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office on Monday identified one of the victims as 47-year-old Jessie Harper from Adamsville. The second victim's name is being withheld pending confirmation of his identity.

Harper died Friday night in a head-on collision with an 18-wheeler in Adamsville. The crash happened at 5:47 p.m. in the 2000 block of Veteran's Memorial Drive.

Authorities said Harper was driving a 2010 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck when, for unknown reasons, he crossed over into oncoming traffic and struck a tractor-trailer head-on. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 5:50 p.m.

The second deadly accident happened at 2:30 a.m. Saturday on Alabama 75 in Pinson. The victim, a young adult male, was driving a pickup truck that left the roadway, went into nearby woods and caught fire. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 2:34 a.m.

The coroner's office said they have been in touch with the victim's family and are awaiting confirmation on the identity of the remains.
