Deputies said the man, identified as Raymond Juarez, 24, and the woman attempted to cross Sheridan Street near a designated crosswalk that had a "Do Not Cross" sign illuminated.

A Toyota Solara, driven by Leslie O'Hare, 61, was headed west and had the right of way when it struck the pedestrians, Sheriff's Office officials said.

O'Hare remained at the scene, Oglesby said.

The woman died at the scene. Juarez was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, where he later died of his injuries.

Oglesby said traffic homicide detectives are investigating, but that they don't suspect impairment or excessive speed as contributing factors to the crash.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
