College basketball: Minnesota West men, women win against Ridgewater

WILLMAR -- By nearly identical scores, the Minnesota West women’s and men’s basketball teams each picked up road victories against Ridgewater on Saturday.

The women won 78-67, while the men won 75-63.

 

WOMEN

Four players scored in double figures with three scoring at least 17 points as the Lady Jays improved to 4-0 in the Southern Division with Saturday’s victory.

Katherin Ihnen had 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead MW, while Emily Haubrich and Andrea Hinkeldey each scored 17. Avery Van Roekel added 12 points. Hinkeldey and Van Roekel each had eight rebounds, while Haubrich finished with nine assists.

The game was tied at 38 at halftime, but Minnesota West outscored the Warriors 22-12 in the third quarter en route to the victory.

Kendra Miller led the Warriors with 20 points.

MEN

Alex Brown and Kuol Chol combined for 41 points to lead the Bluejays to a road victory.

Brown scored 21 points to go with six assists and six steals. Chol scored 20 points and collected seven rebounds. Ki’Shawn Syph finished with 11 points and seven rebounds, while Jeffrey Hudson had eight points and nine rebounds for West, which led 33-28 at halftime.

Daviante Ostrander scored 16 points for the Warriors, while Xavier Towne had 13.

Saturday was the first victory in the Southern Division for Minnesota West, which had to forfeit it’s previous three games due to the playing of an ineligible player.
