LUBOK ANTU: Malaysian and Indonesian army personnel teamed up to foil the smuggling of outboard engines yesterday morning.

The discovery was made when the soldiers raided a location within an oil palm plantation in Ensawang here.

An Indonesian national was detained when he allegedly tried to smuggle out the engines using a compact car through an illegal entry point along the Malaysian-Indonesian border.

The entry point was about 300 metres from the border, according to a press statement from the Malaysian armed forces.

“When inspection was being made, the Indonesian national was carrying a passport and had intended to go home after buying three 15HP outboard engines in Sarikei,” the statement said.

Three cooking gas cylinders, the suspect’s car and several other items were also seized.

The suspect has been handed over to the local police.
