He has been the scourge of Everton ever since his move to Liverpool – and Sadio Mane could write himself into the history books with another strike at Anfield on Sunday.

After his stoppage time winner at Goodison in December, followed by the opener at Anfield in April, the Senegalese star could become the first player EVER – from either side - to score in their opening three Merseyside derbies.

Indeed, not since Robbie Fowler in 1996 has a Liverpool player scored in three consecutive games against the Blues.

A Mane goal would also see him emulate his manager, Jurgen Klopp, who became the first Liverpool boss in history to win his first three fixtures against Everton.

Here is a rundown of some more vital stats ahead of Sunday’s game, courtesy of club statistician Ged Rea:

  • Liverpool look to win this fixture at home for a third successive season. Should they do so they will achieve the feat for the first time since 1994.
  • Daniel Sturridge has scored seven career goals against the Blues in total, with four coming in seven games for Liverpool.
  • Twenty seven players have been sent off in Merseyside derby history – nine from Liverpool and 18 Everton players. This after only five in the first 88 years.
  • The last four Liverpool red cards in league matches have come in games they have gone on to win.
  • If the Reds avoid defeat in this match they will equal their club record of 15 derbies without defeat in all competitions - a feat previously achieved from 1972/1978.

  • If Liverpool net at least three today it will be the first time in their history they have achieved the feat in a Anfield derby in three consecutive seasons.
  • Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho, Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino have scored 13 goals between them in the last three games - and 22 in the last seven.
  • When all four are on the pitch at the same time the quartet average a goal every 23 minutes.
  • Everton have won two of their last 31 league visits to Anfield. As well as that victory in 1999 they also beat Liverpool on this ground in 1995 with Andrei Kanchelskis scoring both in a 2-1 victory.
  • They have gone 13 games without a league win over Liverpool equalling a record sequence set from 1972/78.
