Tennessee football vs Missouri: Cuonzo Martin, Drew Lock among 5 things to know

Tennessee hasn’t won a true road football game since Jauan Jennings caught a Hail Mary pass on the final play at Georgia on Oct. 1 last season.

The Vols (4-5, 0-5 SEC) travel to Missouri (4-5, 1-4) on Saturday, where they won on their last visit (TV: SEC Network, 7:30 pm). Here are five things to know:

Statistical showdown

Missouri is averaging 314.9 yards passing, which ranks second in the SEC and No. 15 nationally. Tigers quarterback Drew Lock leads the nation with 31 touchdown passes.

Tennessee is allowing 150 passing yards per game on average, which leads the SEC and is fourth nationally.

November wins

The Vols are 9-1 in their last 10 games in November. The lone loss was 45-34 at Vanderbilt last season.

During Coach Butch Jones’ tenure, the Vols are 12-5 during the month.

Double dose of sacks

Defensive ends Kyle Phillips and Darrell Taylor had two sacks apiece against Southern Miss on Saturday. It was the first time UT had at least two players with multiple sacks in nearly three years.

Derek Barnett and Curt Maggitt had two each against Kentucky on Nov. 15, 2014.

Daniel padding résumé

Tennessee punter Trevor Daniel had a career-best six punts of 50-plus yards against Southern Miss. He averaged 49.2 yards on eight punts.

For the season, Daniel ranks second in the SEC and fourth nationally, averaging 47.3 yards per punt. He’s on pace to set a Tennessee season record for punting average. The standing record is 46.9 by Jimmy Colquitt in 1982.

For Tennessee fans traveling to Columbia, Mo., former UT men’s basketball coach Cuonzo Martin makes his regular-season debut as Missouri’s coach on Friday.

The Tigers, who were picked to finish fifth in the SEC n the preseason media poll, open against Iowa State at 8 p.m. CT at Mizzou Arena.
