Tommy Wright has blasted stand-in Scotland boss Malky Mackay for leaving St Johnstone in limbo.

The Saints boss has accused the Scotland interim manager and the SFA of a lack of professionalism by not informing his No.2 Callum Davidson if he is required for next month’s friendly against Holland.

St Johnstone assistant Davidson, 41, was called into the national set-up for June’s World Cup qualifier against England by previous national manager Gordon Strachan.

And the one-time Leicester and Blackburn defender has proved a lucky charm, with Scotland unbeaten in five games since he was asked to follow on from Aberdeen assistant Tony Docherty in Strachan’s backroom team.

But with a November 9 friendly looming against the Netherlands and SFA performance director Mackay at the helm, Davidson – capped 26 times in his playing days – is still waiting to hear if he’s back on national service.

Wright said: “We are in total limbo about Callum, which I find incredible.

“Malky hasn’t been in touch and neither has anyone from the SFA. So as it stands he’s thinking he won’t be involved.

“I don’t see why nobody has made a courtesy call to tell him either yes, we want you to continue, or no, I’m bringing my own staff in.

“To just leave it the way it has been shows a real lack of professionalism.

“At this late stage, it obviously looks like they don’t want him there.

“I know Callum has put calls in but he’s heard nothing back.

“I don’t think that’s fair on him because he’s gone in there to help out and did a great job.

“If you don’t want him then the easiest thing is to pick up the phone and tell him that.

“It’s not something I would expect from someone even if it is just on an interim basis they’ve got the job.”

Davidson passed up a summer break to answer the Scotland call, with Saints preparing for Europe 24 hours after the draw with England.

And he was by Strachan’s side for games against Lithuania, Malta, Slovakia and Slovenia.

Former Northern Ireland goalkeeping coach Wright said: “From our point of view, we need to know where we stand because even my chairman (Steve Brown) has been asking whether Callum will be going away or not.

“We are planning our training schedule for the international week so I need to know if a member of my staff is going to be here or not.”
