MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19) - Middletown police are searching for the man behind a grab-and-run theft from Rogers Jewelers.

Security video shows the man looking at a tray of diamond rings with a worker behind the jewelry counter. After nine seconds, the suspect grabs the ring and bolts out of the door.

It happened Wednesday at the Towne Boulevard store.

The man pointed out rings inside a glass case and told the workers that he "wanted to upgrade his girlfriend's ring from a carat to two carats," according to a police report.

When the worker removed the rings from the case, the suspect wasted no time in grabbing the jewels and running from the store.

"Grab-and-run" thefts are the most common type of crimes to hit jewelry stores, according to the Jewelers' Security Alliance.

Police posted video of the incident on Facebook Friday. They're asking anyone with information to contact Detective Highley at 425-7724.
